Even before the pandemic, there’s a good chance that you weren’t getting outside enough. Between work and home life, time can fly by, especially on the weekends, and getting some fresh air can easily be overlooked or put on the back burner. However, getting outdoors to get some fresh air and vitamin D has been proven to boost mental and physical health.

Whether you’re working too much or just need a little help getting outdoors more, one of these tips is almost sure to help you.

1. Check Out Your Neighborhood

When looking to get into fitness, many will opt for a fitness coach and workout gear from Road Runner Sports to help get outside more, but this isn’t a prerequisite. You’d be surprised what outdoor opportunities may exist in your neighborhood!

All too often, the most a lot of us see of our neighborhoods is what we observe as we drive to and from home. Grab a sun hat from Solbari, leash up the dog, and take a regular evening stroll around the block. This will not only give you some sun and fresh air, but you may also meet some neighbors that you aren’t familiar with.

Alternately, go for a walk in a different neighborhood every week.

2. To Rough It or Not

Pick an old favorite or somewhere new, grab an E-Z Up sports tent, a lantern or two, some firewood, and stock up on food and beverages so you can go camping for a weekend. Leave the electronics at home, completely unplug for the weekend and simply enjoy being outside.

3. Take a Hike

There’s an excellent chance that you have at least one state park near you and since many of them have hiking trails and fishing ponds, they’re the perfect place to “get away from it all.” Give yourself a lower body workout while exploring the woods of the Lost Pines State Park or the 25-miles of trails, rock formations, waterfalls, and recess caves of Hocking Hills State Park and experience the outdoors in a fun way in a new place.

4. Stop & Smell the Roses

Seriously! When you’re boosting your immune system by taking that neighborhood walk or going on a camping trip, take your time and immerse yourself in the experience.

  • Pick some wildflowers.
  • Peek under rocks to see what’s there.
  • Dance in the rain.
  • Look for four-leaf clovers.
  • Channel your inner child and swing on a swing or play on a playground.
  • Walk barefoot through the grass or even lay down and take a nap.

The more engaged you are, the more you’re likely to enjoy it, and when that happens, there’s a much better chance that you’ll do it more often.

5. Stay Home & Get Outside

You don’t have to leave home if you don’t want to. Grab a pair of Ombraz Armless Sunglasses, head up to the roof and watch the sunrise every morning. You can also camp, picnic, or have a BBQ in the backyard and have hours of fun. Set up a volleyball or tetherball court, a corn-hole game, or an old-fashioned croquet course and have some fun with family and friends.

6. Cook something on a camp stove.

7. Take your lunch break outside.

8. Play in the snow

Just because it’s winter, but you can enjoy the outdoors. Layer up and enjoy the magic of the snow! Drink some hot chocolate, build a snowman, or even have a snowball fight. There are plenty of ways to enjoy some time outside in the snow.

9. Go by some water

While some love camping in the middle of a forest, others may enjoy spending their time outside near some water. Go paddleboarding, canoeing, or just flat down the river on an inflatable raft are all ways to have some fun in the water. There are tons of watersports to choose from, and you just have to find your favorite!

10. Walk around downtown in your hometown or another city.

Never underestimate the power of a stroll outside. Taking twenty minutes out of your day to go outside has been proven to help reduce stress and improve your mood. It is also a great way to introduce yourself to some neighbors, find new local businesses or restaurants, and just get you more familiar with your area!
